The modern world and well as the food and drink industry is becoming obsessed with health and fitness, and not unjustly. Clearly it is a good thing to monitor what goes into our body and how much sugar we eat to try and enjoy a healthier life.
With that in mind, many non alcoholic beer drinkers are concerned with the sugar in non alcoholic beer.
I have found, in my extensive study, that the average non alcoholic beer has 2g of sugar per 100ml and 7.2g of sugar per 12fl oz. If you contrast this with the fact most alcoholic beers are sugar free, there may be genuine cause for concern.
So what is the lowest sugar non alcoholic beer in the world?
What is the lowest sugar non alcoholic beer?
This is a joint prize between Germany and the USA, one is a pilsner lager, the other is a pale ale.
Ladies and gentlemen, i give you….
and
Partake Pale
Both of these non alcoholic beers are sugar free and they are the only two non alcoholic beers i can find that can boast this feat.
Time to look at each one in a bit more detail…
Bitburger Drive 0.0

Bitburger Drive 0.0 is the alcohol free version of the hugely popular Bitburger Pilsner, hailing from Germany.
What type of beer is Bitburger Drive?
Bitburger Drive 0.0% is a pilsner styled lager
This means it has a light straw to golden colour with more bitter or earthy taste. You basically get all the malty goodness of a lager but with an extra hint of hops and sometimes sweetness.
I prefer a pilsner as it offers just they little bit extra flavour, which in a non alcoholic or alcohol free beer, can make all the difference when body can be an issue.
Bitburger Drive Ingredients
The good news is, as a German lager, it subscribes to famous German Purity Law of 1516. This means i can only have the basic 4 ingredients…
- Water
- Malted Barley
- Hops
- Yeast
I have reviewed well over 100 non alcoholic beers and i can tell you, less ingredients is more. Nothing pleases me more than reading the ingredients list and seeing just these four ingredients (possibly wheat or oats, beer depending).
Bitburger Drive Nutrition
It is true that Bitburger Drive has zero sugar but it does have enough carbs to make it fell like a meaty beer. In fact it has slightly more than the average non alcoholic beer (4.75g) and even more than the average non alcoholic lager (4.34g)
It’s calories come in just a fraction under the overall non alcoholic beer average.

What does Bitburger Drive taste like?
There is plenty of flavour right form the start. I tasted lots of bitter hops and malted barley. A little strangely i feel i get a wheat beer type freshness but that might be because ive just drank a few Bavarian wheats!
It certainly is not sweet tasting, which is what you want to avoid. The mouthfeel is all there, nice and round and full. All in all, a brilliant classic German pilsner.
Partake Pale

Partake is the USA’s contribution to a sugar free non alcoholic beer. In fact, it is top of the ranking for carbs and calories as well. It is a truly remarkable beer.
What type of beer is Partake Pale?
Partake Pale is a Pale Ale.
Pale ales are from the ale family. They are top fermenting in warm conditions with ale yeast. A pale ale is meant to be more easy drinking and not quite as hop heavy as an IPA. When they are alcoholic, the ABV would be less than an IPA too.
One of the main flavours of a pale ale and especially an American pale ale, would be pine from specific hops.
Partake Pale Ingredients
Much like Bitburger Drive, and the hallmark for a well brewed beer, Partake Pale only have 4 ingredients…
- Water
- Malted Barley
- Hops
- Yeast
If you are a non alcoholic beer geek like myself, then when you read this on the can before you drink, you immediately think it has a chance of tasting good.
Partake Pale Nutrition
This is the blockbuster section. Partake Pale is an anomaly in the non alcoholic beer world. It has the lowest amount of calories out of any beer, it is the only zero carb non alcoholic beer and one of only 2, sugar free non alcoholic beers. Amazing isn’t it.

What does Partake Pale taste like?
Alas, this is one of the few, if only beer that i blog about, which i have not tried. That is not for want of trying but Partake do not ship to my area currently but i am actively trying to get my hands on it.
I have to include it in lists like this because it is an extraordinary beer with no carbs, no sugar and they lowest calories in the world.
I have read many other reviews of Partake Pale, all over social media, and the general consensus is that it is a great hoppy pale ale.
I will leave it to you to buy and rate it for yourselves!
