What type of drink is Three Spirit Social Elixir?
Good question. This is a non alcoholic spirit but not in the style of a known spirit like gin, rum or vodka.
Seedlip do something similar whereby you could try and call them a gin with lots of botanicals but they don’t have juniper which is critical to a gin.
Three Spirit’s USP is that they are completely plant based and use some sort of ancient botanical alchemy to craft drinks for different occasions, like going to sleep or to get you going for a party
How is Three Spirit Social Elixir made?
Three Spirit tell us they sustainably source lots of plants, flowers, fungi, spices, roots and aromatic herbs from right around the world.
Usually in a spirit, the ingredients are infused or macerated before being distilled. In the non alcoholic versions the alcohol is then removed and water added back in.
Three Spirit seem to do something similar but spin it as “these ingredients are then ground, infused, distilled or fermented to best extract flavour, aroma and function”
Three Spirit Social Elixir Ingredients
The Three Spirit ingredient list is usually a geography and botany lesson rolled into one and i don’t expect Social Elixir to be any different.
Social Elixir includes…
- Agave nectar
- Extracts of – caraway seed, damiana leaf, lion’s mane mushroom, yerba mate, passion flower, tulsi, cacao bean, green tea
- Coconut vinegar
- Black carrot concentrate
Hands up how many of you have had all those extracts and could pick them out of a line up? No, me neither but like the rest of their range i am more than excited to see how they blend together and what taste they produce.
How to serve Three Spirit Social Elixir?
They tell us to serve 50ml of Social Elixir over ice and top it up with ginger ale, so that is exactly what i will do.
Three Spirit Social Elixir Nutrition
Three Spirit are not shy from adding some sugar into their drinks. Most pure 0.0% spirits are just the distilled spirit with the alcohol removed and have virtually no carbs, sugar and then calories.
Three Spirit add things like molasses and agave nectar so increase the sweetness.

So, this is quite heavy on the carbs and sugar for a non alcoholic spirit but much less than their Livener and still under 25% of what a full alcoholic spirit would be thanks to their alcohol levels.
Three Spirit Social Elixir Look
All the Three Spirit bottles and labels have something a bit supranatural about them with words like “botanical alchemy” and “elixir”.
The glass is green but I 100% expected the drink to also be green and it was a bit of a shock when it wasn’tWhen you pour it, and especially when mixed, it is a dirty cola type colour.
Three Spirit Social Elixir Aroma
This is tricky. As with the other two Three Spirit drinks, the aroma is complex and not straightforward.
Maybe it is smelling it from a green bottle but it does smell “green”. The green grassy note is cut with a sweetness and liquorice. There is an earthy note too which I guess is from the mushroom.
All in all it is a very interesting nose. Perhaps if you put your face in a box of liquorice allsorts and take a big sniff it might be close.
Three Spirit Social Elixir Taste
I am tasting this mixed with FeverTree Ginger Ale as this is the suggested serve.
Much like Livener, the addition on the mixed both diluted the potent aroma and adds a nice lightness.
I am once again finding it difficult to describe exactly the flavours going on here, the list of ingredients is exotic as it is diverse. There is an earthy herbal undertone that when mixed with the ginger, isn’t a huge step away from a cola actually. You can taste the molasses sweetness and that hint of liquorice which wraps up into a very adult tasting, complex drink.
As with all the Three Spirit range, it has to be tasted to be understood. Personally, I have not tasted a drink quite like it and I write drink reviews.
I feel I have rambled and not got close to describing the flavour! Suffice to say I do like it and it is worth a buy
Three Spirit Social Elixir Verdict
Another unique and complex drink from the botanical alchemy company, Three Spirit. A lot of non alcoholic spirits have quite a muted aroma and you need a heavy handed pour to get a good flavour.
Not here, there is a massive nose and you need to dilute it down but they it become much better.
Three Spirit Social Elixir Score
8.5/10 – Difficult to split this from Livener despite being vastly different. There is no lack of flavour and you won’t find something tasting like this anywhere else.
