About Tanqueray
Tanqueray is a London gin producer that has been producing gin with the same recipe for nearly 200 years. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?
Their gin is always made with the same 4 botanicals
- piney juniper,
- peppery coriander
- aromatic angelica
- sweet liquorice
As of 2019, Tanqueray was the fastest growing big gin with a global market share increase of 11.9% leaving it 3rd overall to Bombay Sapphire and Gordon’s.
Nutrition
One of the huge plus points of non alcoholic gin vs alcoholic is the huge calorie savings on offer. Ive written a dedicated article to it here
I’ll compare Tanqueray Export vs Tanqueray 0.0 as a neat drink but also with a range of mixers to see how they can attribute to your calorie intake.
For all my gin tastings, i use FeverTree Light Indian Tonic, for consistancy
Gin | Calories per 1.5 fl oz serving |
Tanqueray Export 43.5% | 105 |
Tanqueray 0.0 | 5 |
So you can see that alcohol free gin is roughly 5% of the calories of its alcoholic sister.
Next up for a look at a few FeverTree Tonics on the market…
FeverTree Tonic | Kcal per 150ml mixer | Sugar per 150ml mixer |
Elderflower Tonic Water | 51 | 11.7g |
Light Indian Tonic Water | 23 | 4.4g |
Premium Indian Tonic Water | 42 | 10.7 |
Aromatic Tonic Water | 56 | 11.7g |
That is quite the variation and not too surprising i guess. You can make smarter choices to reduce calories from you mixers.
Lastly, let’s look at the combinations of best and worst.
Gin | Tonic | Total calories | Total sugar |
Tanqueray export | FeverTree Aromatic Tonic | 161 | 11.7g |
Tanqueray export | FeverTree Light Indian Tonic | 128 | 4.4g |
Tanqueray 0.0% | FeverTree Aromatic Tonic | 61 | 11.7 |
Tanqueray 0.0% | FeverTree Light Indian Tonic | 28 | 4.4g |
So You could be saving 133 calories a drink with a light tonic and Tanqueray 0.0. That is certainly food for thought and a reason many are trying it.
Trying it is one thing, but you only keep buying if that taste is good, so onwards to the actual tasting…
The Tasting…
The Look
Both bottles are stylist and timeless, the gin itself is crystal clear. It looks inviting.
The Aroma
Export – This packs a punch on the nostrils. The 43.5% ABV hits you in the face and kind of overpowers the juniper but it is there
0.0 – obviously no alcohol hit on the nose so a lot more juniper and botanical smell. Its slightly muted tho. I hope it tastes stronger than it smells.
The Taste
Export – Now that is a good gin! The alcohol hits the back of your throat but there is a fantastic burst of juniper flavour that stays in the mouth for a long time.
My wife and sister in law tired this and loved the taste but felt the alcohol was too strong for them and overpowered the flavour a bit
0.0 – I was not expecting this from the smell. This packs a punch and then some. It has the exact same heady juniper hit with all the added botanicals but it just slips down the throat without the alcohol burn.
It’s really quite fantastic. In a taste off, you can clearly tell the difference. Nothing replaces the 43.5% ABV but the question is do you want it to?
Both my wife and sister in law much preferred the flavours of the 0.0 without the alcohol hit. It tastes like a gin, it’s an adult drink, but there is no alcohol. It needs tasted to be believed.
I have a large collection of gin, both alcoholic and non alcoholic, but this is the one my wife reaches for at 5pm for a pre dinner drink.
The Verdict
This has to be tried to be believed. I think most people will welcome the same huge Tanqueray flavour but without the alcohol.
Ive marked it down 1 simply because i’m sure some will want that alcohol hit which it lacks. I really dont miss it tho and i don’t think you will.
If you want to buy only 1 pure “gin” (main ingredient being juniper) alcohol free drink then this is the one to buy.
The Score
9/10. I can see us buying bottle after bottle of this.

Other non alcoholic gins to try
Tanqueray is brilliant but there are lots out there to try. My best might not be your best after all. Here are some of the others out there and what i thought of them…
Gordons 0.0 – whisper it but i’m adding this in after ive reviewed Gordons and i think it might be better! I literally had to go and check the bottle again to make sure it was 0.0
Sipsmith Freeglider – there are definitely good flavours here but i thought it just lacked a bit of punch compared to Gordons or Tanqueray
Clean Co Clean G – big hype and on all the supermarket shelves but it just fails to deliver, unlike their rum (Clean R)
Tanqueray website notes
Four botanicals are perfectly balanced to give Tanqueray 0.0% Alcohol Free a citrus style and juniper led profile, with a delicate botanical complexity behind it.
Tanqueray 0.0% allows you to discover the definitive experience from Tanqueray, just without the alcohol. Serve with your chosen tonic and garnish over ice, then sip, savour and appreciate!
Tanqueray’s four quality botanicals are individually immersed in water, heated, and then distilled to give a complex, delicious flavour.
Tanqueray 0.0% is best enjoyed with plenty of ice, premium tonic water, and garnished with a wedge of lime, but it also makes the perfect base for a wide range of alcohol-free cocktails.
