Pierre Chavin Zero Sparkling Rose Review

What type of wine is Pierre Zero Sparkling Rose?

Just like the rose, this is 80% chardonnay and 20% merlot.

They have sourced their grapes from all over the south of France.

Is Pierre Zero Sparkling Rose really alcohol free?

Yes all the Pierre Zero wines have an alcohol by volume of 0.0%. The have even gone an extra step and ensured their wines have a Halal Certificate to prove they are alcohol free for a Muslim to drink.

For more information on how that certification is obtained you can red my article on it here

They manage to remove all the alcohol from their wines by a process called spinning cone columns.

This is the most efficient method for dealcoholisation. It is designed to extract and recover volatile compounds (the delicate flavours in the wine) using steam, under vacuum conditions. Compared to some of the other dealcoholisation techniques, it proves to be a lot more gentle and helps keep more of the volatile aromatic compounds in the finished wine.

The Nutrition

To counter the loss of alcohol and subsequent loss of body in a wine, a lot of winemakers will pack their alcohol free whites and sparkling wines with sugar. They can take a bit more sweetness than a red wine can.

A sparkling wine also has the added benefit of bubbles to fill the mouth so will Pierre Chavin have gone all out on the sugar or be happy to rely on the fizz for body and mouthfeel?

A nice surprise. That is about as low calorie and low in sugar as you tend to get in sparkling wines. Most, if not all, other alcohol free sparkling wines i have reviewed have had higher sugar levels than this.

The Look

The wine is a darker shade than the Zero Rose which i hope is a good sign as it tasted mostly of water (review here)

The Aroma

Well i do get a lot more on the nose than the still rose too. the bubbles are wafting peach and raspberry to me and enticing me in for a sip.

The Taste

Ah ha! This is actually pretty good. I drank this with my wife and sister in law. We all loved this and after drinking our way through the rest of the Pierre Zero range, this was a Godsend.

It tastes peachy and light, sweet but not a long linger sweet taste like prestige white. Nice sparkle and refreshing. You maybe could pass this for a sparkling wine just about. I think I would definitely use this at parties for anyone not drinking for any reason. Its much better than offering someone a coke or juice when the Champagne is flowing.

Sister in law – This is a very refreshing and light sparkling wine. It is very easy to drink

Wife – I enjoyed that it is delicate but well balanced with plenty of fizz

I think you could easily finish a bottle of this yourself. It feels like an adult drink and not a kids grape juice.

The Verdict

We were all pleasantly surprised with how refreshing and flavoursome this was, an excellent alcohol free sparkling wine.

The Score

8.5/10 – I haven’t been too positive on Pierre Chavin Zero overall but this is very good, i would definitely recommend trying it.
