McGuigan is an Australian winery powerhouse and they have produced one of the most complete alcohol free ranges in the world, handily enough called “Zero”
The range includes…
What type of wine is Mcguigan Zero Chardonnay?
No surprises here, this is a Chardonnay.
Chardonnay is a type of grape variety which is a green-skinned . It makes a dry, medium- to full-bodied wine with middling acidity. If the wine is alcoholic it would usually be a moderate alcohol by volume concentration.
You can get flavours from apple all the way to papaya. It is an incredibly popular grape variety and grown across the globe.

Mcguigan Zero Chardonnay Ingredients
McGuigan Zero Chardonnay includes…
- 96% dealcoholised wine
- Grape juice concentrate
The is fairly encouraging. The vast majority of their wine is just dealcoholised wine with a small percentage made up of grape juice to add flavour and some extra sweetness.
Mcguigan Zero Chardonnay Nutrition
Often non alcoholic wines and white wines in particular, can be packed with sugar to make up for the thinner body the lack of alcohol can leave.
If you are looking for a like for like white wine replacement with a non alcoholic wine, you probably don’t want an overly sweet wine that runs the risk of tasting like a fruit or grape juice.

Mcguigan Zero Chardonnay Look
As with all the Mcguigan Zero range, the label styling is simple and classic. You know exactly what you are getting and can pick the bottle out on the shelf easily. They have nailed this part of their range.
The wine itself is a mild yellow with tiny bubbles from a light carbonation.
Mcguigan Zero Chardonnay Aroma
There is not a huge amount on the nose but when you chill a white wine you stunt the aroma too.
What you do get is quite pleasant. There is apple and melon with just a hint of vanilla. It smells like a reasonable chardonnay.
Mcguigan Zero Chardonnay Taste
On opening you get the smallest fizz and tight bubbles add to the body.
There is a definite green apple and ripe melon type vibe with a bit of lemon or lime. I would add in a peach flavour which is a nice addition.
There is meant to be a vanilla and oak flavour from the barrels but this is quite a weak flavour, not compared to say a red rioja.
You can get a nice sweet hum, more honey than all out sugar, which is again quite a nice change from some of the really sugary white wines out there.
There isn’t really a bum note, the first flavour is good and that’s what lasts to the end and beyond. It doesn’t just fall away like a cheap wine, or worse, leave you with a nasty aftertaste.
Mcguigan Zero Chardonnay Verdict
I think their Sauvignon Blanc is a more true representation of a grape but I do like this chardonnay. There is sweetness but not a lot and the nutrition is as good as you get really.
Hardys chardonnay might be a touch better for my palate
Mcguigan Zero Chardonnay Score
7/10. A decent wine, not too sweet, nice flavours, perfect for a hot summers day.
