Lowtide West Coast Hop Lock Non Alcoholic Beer Review

Lowtide west coast hop lock alcohol free beer i bought and drank for this review

Lowtide are one of the top non alcoholic craft breweries in the UK.

They are known for their funky can art and their big flavours. Usually a west coast pale ale will have bags of hops so will this?

What type of beer is West Coast Hop Lock?

It is a west coast pale ale.

West Coast IPAs are traditionally known for their bold hop aroma, high bitterness and citrus/piney aroma and flavors.

The Nutrition

Alcohol – 0.5%

Calories – Not provided

Carbohydrates – Not provided

Sugar – Not provided

A bit surprisingly, Lowtide don’t give any nutrition information other than the alcohol content. It is hard to guess on what it may be, maybe we can guess from the taste.

The Look

As always with Lowtide, the artwork on the can is great. We see a typical California scene of impossibly cool people.

The beer itself is a golden colour with limited head.

The Aroma

There is a limited nose on this one. There is a bit of citrus hops but it is quite muted.

The Taste

This is a bit strange, maybe it is the fact i dont known what to expect from the nutritional data or maybe because I’ve just had a Guinness 0.0. Read my review of it here.

You get some hops and bitterness, lemony citrus form the hops but it’s a bit muted. It’s getting towards a pale ale but it’s lacking something.

The body isn’t quite there and it’s a little thin. If i had to guess i would say it is quite low calorie and low sugar so why don’t they just tell us?

Then something equally strange happens. As you drink more it somehow gets less thin and watery and you get more of the hops

Difficult to gauge. I mean, it’s not terrible, in fact it’s quite good now i’ve nearly finished it.

The Verdict

Not quite as full a body as some but it’s a good effort from a great brewery. I would guess its not high in calories or sugar

The Score

7.5/10. First sip was a but ends on an 8 so I’ll go 7.5

Lowtide website notes

Lowtide West Coast Hop Lock is a perfectly balanced pale ale. Loaded with heavy hoppy aromas that leave you with a subtle but lingering bitterness.

Lowtide say: “Word on the street is, California knows how to party. We thought we’d take a page out of their book and throw a party of our own – in a can. We invited our best friends, Eukanot, Citra & Azacca, and introduced them to Vienna Malt, Windor Yeast, and a few others to see what would happen.”

Review Overview

Not quite as full a body as some but it’s a good effort from a great brewery. I would guess its not high in calories or sugar
